Liftgate Lift Support

Liftgate supports, or gas struts, are pressurized cylinders designed to hold up a liftgate or rear hatch. Over time, they can fail due to a pressure drop, often caused by exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, or contaminants. Cold weather, in particular, can reduce the gas pressure inside the struts, making them less effective at supporting the gate during cooler conditions.

Liftgate Lift Support Failure Symptoms

• The hatch may feel heavier or fail to stay open as high as before due to a gas leak in the lift support
• Grease or oil leaking from the existing shocks
• Seeping noise or creaks coming from the shocks when lifting the hatch
